Aidan Coffey: Jackson's Reel No.2
Use this audio track to learn the basic melody of part A. Omit the ornamentation at first until you have the version of the tune in your head. The ornamentation is relatively straightforward. There are a few rolls here and there, notably on the E. For the basses, assuming you're playing a conventional C#/D box, the chords D and A will suffice for this part. If you're able for the bass, it works best for this tune by using the 1-2 approach (keeping time) instead of droning them (part B is better suited to droning the basses).
Part B @ 50% pace
Use this audio track to learn the basic melody of part B. Omit the ornamentation at first until you have the version of the tune in your head. The ornamentation is largely confined to numerous rolls on D. For the basses, drone the D (on the press), lifting your fingers off wherever there's a short draw note. The chords D and A will suffice for the bass, for this part.
Part A @ 50% pace
Part C @ 50% pace
Use this audio track to learn the basic melody of part C. It is definitely more difficult than parts A and B. Omit the ornamentation at first until you have the version of the tune in your head. The ornamentation is made up of grace notes on the high F# and rolls on C#. Getting the fingering correct to suit your own hands is vital in this part. There is a need for some stretching here and there. You'll definitely need your (possibly neglected) little finger in this part. Bass approach should be a mixture of droning on D and A, where possible, and 1-2 timekeeping otherwise.
