This variation appears in the first part of the tune and merely replaces a more staccato E’D’D’ G’D’D’ with a more sustained E’(sustained) D’ G’(sustained) D’. This sort of change in phrasing can be a very effective form of ornamentation as it changes the feel dramatically while maintaining the core melody virtually intact.
A nice opportunity here to display some tight or closed fingering. I’m simply replacing the more open G roll, A roll with the more staccato sounding G’D’G’ – A’D’G’. Remember, the more you keep the chanter closed between notes, the tighter the movement will sound.
