This variation features in the Part A and replaces the plain double B or the more adventurous BC#B triplet (ornamentation 1), with a smooth D Cnat B run. This emphasis on the D’ is subtle, but noticeable and very tasty in my opinion.
I love this change as it involves a very subtle change in the series of notes, but transforms the section nicely. It is particularly effective given it’s proximity to the end of the tune, and gives the “last roundup” of the tune a great lift. For a slight variation on the variation (now there’s value for money) try playing the first G’ as a staccato note - stopping the chanter for an instant – then playing only one of the B’ s. So, instead of
G’ B’B’ G’ F#’ A’A’ you play G’ Stop B’ G’ F#’ A’A’ where “Stop” has the same time value as one of the D’ s.
