This is a very simple but effective variation suited to this standard. What’s happening here is that instead of using the normal sustained D’ in a B Cnat D’(sustained) D’ movement, I’m replacing it with a shorter D’ and E’ to give me BcnatD’E’D’D’. Whether you choose to use the sustained or the latter version as the ornamentation, the idea is to change it around a little in the tune, and to get practice at popping little variations in here and there.
Be careful, ornamentation and variations should not be overplayed – be subtle with their application.
This is a similar variation to Variation 1 – same idea, different notes. This time it’s performed on the Cnat sustained. Replace that with Cnat D’ Cnat Cnat. It might be nice to do both variations one after the other and then play the sections plainly one after the other. This helps to highlight the variation.
