Chord (part b, bar 2)
This is a simple chord of C# and E. It replaces the triplet described above. It sounds good in this tune although some musicians prefer to avoid chords in Irish traditional music.

 

Variation 2

Octaves (part b, bar 4 – link notes)
Octaves can be effective for emphasis. The octaves I normally play in the second part of the tune are high and low E and high and low F#. The F# octave indicated on the stave is only played when repeating part b of the tune (not when going back to part a). Ensure that your fingers are correctly placed and prepared for the notes that follow.
